About Paul Athans

Marple resident Paul Athans was born in the North West and attended his local state Grammar School before studying Politics at the University of Liverpool. Here he discovered his two passions, politics and the Army. He joined the Conservative Party and the Territorial Army whilst studying. 

Adamant he did not want to be a career politician, he joined the Regular Army (The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment) after graduating. Here he spent 12 years serving all over the globe including Afghanistan, Iraq, Ukraine, Kenya, and Cyprus. As well as operational deployments he has conducted a variety of military aid activities such as covering as a firefighter during strikes, rebuilding a refugee camp, and helping to deploy Army personnel during COVID. Upon being selected to be the prospective Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Hazel Grove, Paul transferred to the Army Reserve so that he can continue to serve his country whilst working to serve the people of Hazel Grove constituency.

A descendent of Greek migrants, Paul's full surname is Athanassiadis but he has always been known by the shortened version, 'Athans'.

Paul has a wealth of leadership and life experience that will make him an outstanding Member of Parliament for Hazel Grove. As a resident in Marple, he understands the issues that are important to local residents, and he will work tirelessly to ensure the voices of the people of Hazel Grove are heard in Westminster. 

In his spare time Paul enjoys running and is a huge Everton fan. He is also a qualified skydiver and can play the trombone.
